Can we bring our own food? We feed the highest quality food, ProPlan Chicken & Rice. It is the choice food of most top quality AKC breeders and handlers. Our guests love the diet, and we have no problem with their eating or stools. If your dog or cat require a special diet for medical reasons, please do furnish that with instructions.
Can we bring in my dog’s bed and toys? Certainly, if you wish, but understand that they may not be in the best condition upon departure. We provide and maintain clean bedding and blankets for all our guests.
Can we board our 2 dogs together? If your dogs are OK with eating in close proximity they can be together. If one of the dogs is food aggressive, or a very dominant Alpha, they must be in separate runs.
Do you have dogs play together in “Playtime”? No we do not! Dogs are pack animals, just like Wolves. In a group situation the Alpha dog must “rule and establish order”. If you own several dogs you undoubtedly have observed that. In a group or “co-mingled” enclosure, with the Alpha’s need to dominate, a fight may occur and injuries to both animals and people are likely to happen.
Do you take the dogs out for a walk? Extra attention comes on walks to “Playtime” and in the “Playtime” yard. We do not take dogs away from the security of our double-fenced kennel. Dogs can and do “slip a lead” and get away if something startles them during a walk.
Do you board Pit Bulls? Absolutely! They have been much maligned. We board all breeds, from Pit Bulls to Poodles, and everything in between. Our individualized “private” kennel runs are designed to make each dog safe in their enclosure, and safe from other dogs in their enclosures.
Do our pets have to be spayed or neutered? No! Again, all pets, our “guests”, are welcome at West Valley. We are, however strong advocates of spaying and neutering in order to control the pet population.
How often do you require Bordetella shots? All of our guests are to be currently vaccinated up to the day they check out. We respect the decision you and your vet have made as to the frequency or necessity of inoculations. In other words, we verify expiration dates.
Can you give shots to our diabetic pet? No - injections are only given by DVMs or Veterinatian Techs.
Do you board dogs that bark? Of course! What dog doesn’t bark? Some more than others obviously, but West Valley Pet Lodge is “where a dog can be a dog!” Don’t be surprised if you hear a lot of barking during your first tour of the kennel. They all become accustomed to us during their stay, but a new visitor really gets their attention!
Why do you want us to bring the dogs in “as early as possible?” Your pet needs to get comfortable before it gets dark. It is a new situation for them, and it’s easier for them to become accustomed to it during daylight. And it’s much better if your “goodbyes” are without emotion. You play a major role in their psyche and happy boarding experience, by getting your pet in early, getting the admission completed, and then walking right out the door. Don’t worry. They’re in good hands!
Those are the majority of questions we are asked. If you have others please let us know!
